  • Blazing-fast opening with thumbs checksum instead of copy
  • Thumbs update on saving; extracting only on checksum fail
  • Option to choose where thumbnails cache should be kept
  • Speed-up in some RGB565 functions using operator module
  • Some speed-up when open/save in extract/rebuild thumbs
  • Fixed treeview when selecting an album for the first time
  • Fixed addition/removal/display of photos with accented or other not ASCII characters
  • Fixed cross-platform pack/unpack specifying little-endian
  • Maybe it now supports the latest model, iPod Nano 1Gb

GPixPod development on SourceForge Subversion CVS

Monday, March 27th, 2006

Starting from GPixPod 0.4.0 I’m actually developing using SVN on SourceForge. Thus, if you wish to get the latest unreleased code, you could check out it with the command:
svn checkout https://svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/gpixpod/trunk gpixpod-cvs

More than 1000 downloads from SourceForge!

Saturday, March 25th, 2006

Thanks to all GPixPod users for trying it and hopefully using it with satisfaction :-) . GPixPod was first published the last 28 January achieving 12 public releases with the last 0.4.0 in almost 8 weeks.
GNU/Linux distributions are beginning to package it, AFAIK (from a Google search) it has been included currently in Mandriva Cooker and ArchLinux.
Also the Win32 version seems to attract some attention, the old 0.3.1 version has become popular on Download.com counting 520 downloads: the new 0.4.0 should appear on the portal in a few business days.

GPixPod 0.4 released with most-wanted features!

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

I have just posted on SF the most wanted major version of GPixPod: the new 0.4 with the much waited handling of full resolution images options. Now GPixPod should significantly enhance iPod photo managing possibilities over iTunes 8-) - in detail:

  • Now loading properly Photo Databases generated by iTunes with the option to not copy full resolution images
  • Global option to copy / not copy full resolution images (like iTunes)
  • New Add Photo with or without full resolution individual actions buttons (unlike iTunes, you could choose the behaviour even for each single photo)
  • Unlike iTunes, it is possible to add full resolution images to existing photos previously created without
  • Unlike iTunes, it is possible to remove full resolution images from existing photos that previously included it
  • All iPod thumbnails are shown in a dedicated page on the new notebook based right details pane! Known bug: the full screen iPod image of Photo/Color iPods is currently displayed as garbage, however the issue is related only to the visualization, and not to the actual thumbnal that is properly displayed as before on the iPod.

GPixPod 0.4 features also the new Spanish translation by Diego Belotti, latest 1Gb iPod Nano model support, a little optimization of the full resolution image display process, updated Windows 2000/XP version and a lot of other little bugfixes.

Please download and try this new version and report your feedback! Direct links to the files: Debian/Ubuntu .deb package, RPM package (generated with alien), Win32 installer, source tarball

Features wishlist

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

Contribute to the wiki writing what GPixPod is currently missing in the features wishlist!
GPixPod 0.4 will be out in a few days, there could be time to already implement something before this release. The rest will be considered for the next releases (if actually within my possibilities! ;-) )

GPixPod 0.3.4 released!

Wednesday, March 8th, 2006

Image details are now available also when not saved yet with the status (saved/not saved) shown. Image is zoomed to all available space in the right pane by default; now it is possible to adjust zoom of the displayed image, and to save it directly from GPixPod, too. The treeview has been enhanced expanding/collapsing rows on single click, default names are now shown when adding/renaming albums, plus a few bug fixes.
